Aldo Balatti, D.I.D., IDSA, SPE, SME

Aldo is an award-winning Senior Product Designer/Plastic Applications Specialist with 24 years of experience in a wide variety of new product development programs; mainly from concepts through to production. Prior to founding his own firm, Evolve Design Solutions Inc., in 2005, he spent 15 years as a consultant in product development working for two major design firms,
where he spearheaded the plastic applications department and
held the title of Design Engineering Director. Aldo has worked
with many leading and reputable companies such as Black &
Decker, Nortel Networks, Motorola , General Motors, Electrolux,
Canada Post, MDS Nordion, Hydro-Quebec, C-MAC and CCM.
Aldo has substantial experience in 3D CAD modeling, mold filling
analysis/simulation as well as in the development of injection
molded components and plastic materials selection. He is an
avid supporter of DFMA (Design for Manufacture and Assembly),
CE (Concurrent Engineering), RP (Rapid Prototyping) and RT
(Rapid Tooling) as well as mold filling analysis/simulation.
He holds many utility and design patents and is currently
a silver member of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE),
senior member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME)
as well as a professional member of the Industrial Designers
Society of America (IDSA).
Aldo has published and presented many papers, was a guest
speaker on the Discovery Channel as well as, on many occasions;
has been a guest lecturer on Rapid Prototyping and Rapid Tooling
at Carleton University, in Ottawa. He was appointed as a board
member to the Moldflow IMUG (International Moldflow User Group)
and was elected an honorary member of the board of directors
of the SPE/PD3 (Product Design & Development) division.
He has served, since 2003, as a member of the SME Injection
Molding Technical Group and the SME Design for Plastics Technical
Group. For 2005-2006, he has been appointed Chair of the SME
Injection Molding Technical Group as well as member of the
SME Engineering Materials and Applications (EMA) Steering
Committee. Aldo received, in 1984, an Industrial Design Diploma
and scholarships from Georgian College of Applied Arts and
Technologies in Barrie, Ontario.
